Pads live up to ABMAT standards, overbuilt and manufactured with clear attention to quality. I’ve been using them for two weeks as crash cushions for movements like incline dumbbell bench press, which I’m sure my downstairs neighbor appreciates since they absorb much of the impact and noise.
I don’t have the DC Blocks, but the cushions have a grippy backside that helps them stay in place and makes them useful even without the DC Blocks (sorry, DC Block). They’re also ideal for apartments or small-footprint gyms, as they’re compact in both width and thickness. That said, when I need to drop heavy dumbbells, I still make sure they land squarely in the center and not on the edge so they don’t roll off the pad, hit the floor, disturb the neighbors, or damage my floors. This hasn’t happened to me yet, so it’s more of a precaution than a complaint.
It’s honestly a small gripe, and I’m also not using them for their intended purpose, but maybe ABMAT could develop a crash cushion that sits somewhere between the DC Blocks × Crash Cushions and their larger Crash Cushions. That way, I could fully drop the dumbbells without worrying about placement while still benefiting from easy storage.
Definitely is a good addition to my home gym. The rubber tiles helped keep the sound lower but the DC crash pads totally silenced it! I appreciate the good quality in your products. This is the 2nd product I have ordered and I am not disappointed. :)
These DC Block crash cushions are awesome! The grippy vinyl on the bottom and the cut outs make them solid. They are whisper quiet when the plates crash onto them. I also have the larger crash cushions but these are excellent. They serve as 2 extra DC blocks per side! Brilliant design and a brilliant collaboration.
Their small footprint makes them ideal for an apartment home gym. I was a little worried that they would lay flat on the floor due to them being designed to use with blocks but they lay fine. They aren’t as thick as regular crash pads so they don’t raise the bar up too high for deadlifts.
For whatever reason, I really wanted these but I already had the DC Blocks Flat Tops and a pair of regular Crash Cushions. Because I had those things already, I never got these but my wife ended up getting me a pair for my birthday. They’re my favorite piece of foam in the gym and I have a lot of foam and much of it from AbMat. They’re much more easy to move than regular sized silencer pads so I find myself using them a lot more than my Crash Cushions.
They’re great for getting loaded barbells off the floor, lifting dumbbells off the floor to make them easier to grab (and adjust if you have adjustables), Nordic curl progression and if I didn’t have the Box Squat Pad already, I would use them for those too. I actually find myself using these more than spotter arms on my racks for things like shrugs and bent over rows.
One thing to be aware of is that the ripstop vinyl that AbMat uses for the Crash Cushions product line while nice, get worn down more easily. And by worn down, I really just mean scuffed and scratched so they age faster but some would call that a patina. There’s no risk of real rips or puncturing though, but they will get beat up from plates and whatever else you put on them.
I think the Crash Cushions are expensive for what they are when there are much cheaper options out there, but these seem more reasonably priced, so I would recommend these if you don’t want the cheaper/imported versions for whatever reason. They’re also thinner so for those who don’t want their bars raised as high, these are better too. Obviously, they’re smaller so they won’t hold as many plates. I like the thick zipper more than the velcro that the regular Crash Cushions have. I also like that the bottom of them are of course, tapered to fit on DC Blocks perfectly and also have grippy vinyl to stay on securely.
These are one the best buys in the Crash Cushion line even if you don’t have DC Blocks.
The he DC Blocks Crash Cushions are a great addition to my DC Blocks. They Fit perfectly and do a great job of protecting the bar and plates. I love these!
So the only drawback I have is loading and unloading plates.
With the weight on the bar the plates sink in to the pads. So it becomes a two person job increasing or decreasing weight.
I can send a picture in next time I deadlift.
Thanks,
Alex.
